Concrete Slab & Foundation Work
Everything you build sits on a foundation — and we make sure yours is solid, level, and built to last for the long haul.

What We Mean by Slab and Foundation Work
When most people think of concrete, they picture driveways and patios. But some of the most important concrete work we do is underneath structures — garages, sheds, workshops, additions, and new home construction. This is slab and foundation work, and it is where the standard for quality is highest.
A concrete slab is a flat, horizontal pour that serves as the floor or base for a structure. Foundations go a step further — they carry the full load of whatever is built on top of them and must be engineered to handle that weight safely. Getting it wrong can mean settling, cracking, and structural problems that are expensive to fix later.
Here is the range of work we handle in this category:
- New garage slabs and garage floor replacements
- Shed and workshop concrete pads
- Room addition and ADU foundations
- Poured concrete foundations for small structures
- Equipment pads for HVAC units, generators, and more
- Interior concrete floor slabs for new construction
If you are building something new or replacing an old failing slab, we can help. We also handle concrete repair and replacement when an existing slab has deteriorated beyond patching.
How We Prepare and Pour a Slab the Right Way
The steps that separate a good pour from a great one
There is a reason foundation and slab work has a higher standard than decorative concrete. When a patio has a small crack, it is an aesthetic issue. When a foundation has a structural problem, it is a much bigger deal. We treat every slab pour with the same level of care.
We start with site preparation. The ground has to be excavated to the right depth and graded properly. Any soft or unstable soil is addressed before the forms go in. A compacted gravel base is laid and leveled — this is your drainage layer and it prevents the slab from having uneven pressure points underneath it.
Next, we set the forms and place the reinforcement. For garage slabs and foundations, rebar is standard. For lighter-duty pads like a shed or HVAC unit, wire mesh may be sufficient. We coordinate with any other trades as needed — plumbers run their rough-in pipes before we pour, for example.
The pour itself is a precise operation. We place the concrete, screed it to a consistent level, float the surface, and apply the correct finish. Curing blankets or compounds are used as needed to protect the slab during the critical first days after the pour.
Why Foundation Work is Not a DIY Project
We understand the appeal of doing things yourself, and there are plenty of small concrete jobs where that makes sense. Slab and foundation work is not one of them. Here is why.
Concrete is heavy, it sets fast, and there is very little room for error once the truck starts rolling. If the forms are not set right, you end up with a slab that is off-level. If the base prep is not done correctly, you get settling and cracking within a few years. Getting the water-to-cement ratio wrong affects the final strength of the slab. These are not things that are easy to fix after the fact.
Licensed concrete contractors also know the local permitting requirements. In Santa Rosa and Sonoma County, certain types of foundation work require permits and inspections. We handle all of that as part of the process so you do not have to worry about being on the wrong side of code.
We also carry proper liability insurance, which protects you in the unlikely event something goes wrong during construction. For larger projects, that peace of mind is worth a lot. See our home page to learn more about what sets us apart as a licensed, locally owned concrete contractor in Santa Rosa.
